It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of Race 1 of the Thames Turbo Sprint Triathlon Race Series.

The British Triathlon Federation (BTF) have suspended all triathlon related events and training sessions from all affiliated clubs until at least the 30th June 2020.

The club and the committee work tirelessly behind the scenes to make each race, each year bigger and better than before and we know that you will share our huge disappointment at this news. From a club perspective having to make this decision is very disappointing as the races provide much-needed revenue and awareness in order to help sustain both Junior and Senior sides of the club.

In terms of what happens next, the club have investigated several options. Unfortunately we cannot postpone because our various partners are sadly unable to commit that their facilities will be available later in the year, when hopefully this virus has passed through.  As the 2nd Race in our series has already been confirmed for Bank Holiday Monday 31st August 2020, we are offering you the option to transfer your entry to that date without the usual transfer fee.

The option to transfer will be available until the 1st May 2020. No changes can be made once you have transferred.

In common with virtually every other event organiser and business in the UK, whilst we carry extensive business disruption and event cancellation insurance, none of these policies cover the unprecedented circumstances of the current outbreak of COVID-19. In addition to losing our forecast revenue for the next two months, over the last 6 months we have already committed a huge amount of pre-paid expenses towards Race 1 which is now unrecoverable. Put plainly, refunding participant entry fees now is not something our club could absorb. Although our Terms & Conditions of participation allow us to withhold refunds in these circumstances, we would never choose to exercise this in normal circumstances as cancellation would almost always result from an insurable event (e.g. poor weather) where money recovered from insurance is then used to refund participants.

We hope you understand that this situation is completely unprecedented and could not have been foreseen by anyone. We understand that you will be deeply disappointed. We, along with the rest of the UK events industry, are facing an enormous challenge to survive and the industry is likely to look very different once this crisis has subsided. We are currently doing everything we can to try and navigate our way through this incredibly challenging period to give ourselves the very best chance of surviving into 2021. Should that happen, you can rest assured that your understanding and support at this difficult time will not be forgotten.
